Vaikuntha-Kamalaja is a distinctive Hindu deity whose depiction portrays the male attributes of Vishnu on the right side and the female attributes of Lakshmi on the left. They are divided to symbolize the unity of the male and female principles in the universe.
A tortoise appears as Lakshmi’s complementary animal (rather than her standard owl). It stands opposite Vishnu’s mount, the bird-deity Garuda, who kneels in homage. The symmetrical composition emphasizes the unification of opposites. While there isn't much known about Vaikuntha-Kamalaja in Hindu scriptures, the deity's unique depiction continues to inspire reverence among those who worship them.
