Mahishasuramardini is a popular Hindu tale that recounts the victory of the goddess Durga over Mahishasura. Mahishasura, the buffalo demon, had become so powerful that he had defeated and chased away all the gods from heaven. The gods, realizing that they were powerless against Mahishasura, sought the help of the powerful goddess Durga.
Durga, also known as Devi or Shakti, is considered the mother goddess and is worshipped by Hindus as the ultimate source of power and energy. According to the myth, Durga battled Mahishasura for nine days and nights before finally defeating him on the tenth day, which is celebrated as Vijayadashami or Dussehra in India.
