Yamantaka is a powerful tantric deity in Vajrayana Buddhism, and is considered to be a violent aspect of the Bodhisattva Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom. According to tantric tradition, Manjushri assumes this form to vanquish Yama, the god of death and ruler of the underworld, who represents the forces that bind beings to the cycle of rebirths (samsara). By defeating Yama, the practitioner is able to break free from the cycle of death and rebirth, which is seen as an obstacle to enlightenment.
Yamantaka is said to have the power to conquer death, overcome obstacles, and bring blessings and protection to practitioners. He is considered a powerful teacher and guide who can reveal the true nature of reality and help practitioners to attain buddhahood. Yamantaka is often visualized and invoked as a means to purify the mind and attain spiritual power.
