The centerpiece of the mandala is a stylized lotus flower, symbolizing purity and enlightenment. Surrounding it are eight figures of Amitayus, the Buddha of longevity, each representing a different aspect of this deity.  A larger, central Amitayus figure presides over them all.

The upper section of the thangka takes the theme of enlightenment even further. Here, Amitayus, again depicted as the central figure, is flanked by revered Tibetan lineage teachers like Acharya Garbha, Jetari, and Sachen Kunga Nyingpo (1092-1158). We've preserved elements of this art's ancient qualities in order to retain its richness and uniqueness.
