Zakariya al-Qazwini wrote "Wonders of Creation and Oddities of Existing Things"  in 1258. The first part of the book is devoted to the supernatural and divine world, while the second part is dedicated to the earthly world. Qazwini discusses celestial bodies, the moon, the sun, planets, and stars (including lunar and solar eclipses).

He then talks about the Heavenly Kingdom, who are angels who carry God's throne, archangels, guardian angels, and others. The book is illustrated with colorful and intricate images of fantastical creatures, including the phoenix and the griffin. The illustrations also depict scenes from the author's vision of the creation story and various religious and mythological narratives.
