In Japanese mythology and folklore, the one-eyed monster, known as the hitotsume-kozō, is a mischievous and sometimes malevolent spirit that is believed to cause trouble and bring bad luck to humans. The hitotsume-kozō is typically depicted as a small, one-eyed creature with a deformed face and a large head.
According to legend, the hitotsume-kozō often appears at night or in remote places, and enjoys playing pranks on humans such as stealing their belongings or causing them to get lost in the woods. Despite their mischievous nature, the hitotsume-kozō can also be dangerous and violent, and have been known to attack humans. Smoke and fire were commonly used in Japanese folklore as a way to ward off evil spirits and demons.
