Completed in 1252, the actual bronze statue of the Great Buddha of the Kōtoku in Kamakura is a 44 feet tall. It resides in the Kotaku temple, south of Tokyo bay. The original temple was swept away by the great tsunami of 1495, but the Great Buddha weathered the storm is a popular attraction to this day. It's the second-tallest Buddha statue in Japan.
