In Buddhist teachings, the concept of rebirth refers to the idea that the consciousness of a person or being passes from one life to another after death. The ultimate goal of Buddhist practice is to end the cycle of rebirth and achieve nirvana, a state of enlightenment in which the desires and attachments that fuel the cycle of rebirth are extinguished. Nirvana is believed to be a state of true insight into impermanence, non-self, and Interbeing, a term coined by the great Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh. It is a state of peace and liberation from suffering.
