"Mitsukuni Defying the Skeleton" is a famous woodblock print created by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) during the Edo period (1603-1868). The print was originally produced as part of a series called "One Hundred and Eight Heroes of the Popular Water Margin" (Suikoden goketsu hyakuhachinin no hitori), which was based on the Chinese novel "Water Margin."
The print depicts a scene where the hero Mitsukuni, a samurai, stands fearlessly in front of a giant skeleton wielding a sword. Mitsukuni is shown wearing a traditional samurai armor, while his sword is held behind him in preparation for battle. The skeleton is shown as a menacing figure, with its bones exposed and its eyes glowing with an eerie light.
