Manjusri is the oldest and most significant bodhisattva in Mahayana literature. He symbolizes the embodiment of prajna (transcendent wisdom). He's a meditational deity and a fully enlightened Buddha. Mañjuśrī wielding a flaming sword in his right hand is a powerful image representing the realization of transcendent wisdom. 

In addition to his role as a meditational deity and a symbol of wisdom, Manjusri is also revered for his role in the founding of the city of Vikramashila in eastern India. This city was a major center of learning and culture, and was home to many great scholars and teachers. It is said that Manjusri himself founded the city, and that he personally chose and ordained the monks who lived there.
