Green Tara, also known as Khadiravani, is a female bodhisattva and a manifestation of compassion in the Buddhist tradition. She is usually depicted as a young and beautiful goddess, seated in a relaxed posture, and holding a lotus flower in her hand. She is associated with protection from fear and the following eight obscurations:
• Lions (pride): pride that can lead to arrogance and a sense of superiority over others.
• Wild elephants (delusion/ignorance): ignorance that can lead to misunderstanding and confusion.
• Fires (hatred and anger): hatred and anger that can lead to destructive behavior.
• Snakes (jealousy): jealousy that can lead to resentment and envy.
• Bandits and thieves: wrong views and fanatical beliefs that can lead to harmful actions.
• Bondage: avarice and miserliness that can lead to greed and attachment to material possessions.
• Floods: desire and attachment that can lead to suffering and dissatisfaction.
• Evil spirits and demons: deluded doubts that can lead to confusion and uncertainty.
