Amitabha, or Amitayus (“Infinite Life”), is a popular Bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhist Pure-Land sects of Tibet, Nepal, China, and Japan. All who have faith and who called upon his name are reborn in his Western Paradise, where they reside in bliss until their ultimate enlightenment. Amitabha is often depicted holding a vase of pure water, which represents the flow of the boundless life force that he embodies. He is also often shown with a lotus flower, which symbolizes the potential for spiritual growth and enlightenment.
According to traditional Buddhist teachings, Amitabha is the ruler of the Western Pure Land, a paradise where all beings can achieve enlightenment. In Mahayana texts, it is said that Amitabha made a vow to guide all sentient beings to his Western Pure Land, where they can experience infinite life and ultimate liberation from suffering.
