The 7 Yogic Chakras and Activating Kundalini Energy - Sacred Surreal

According to the yogic tradition, kundalini energy is dormant in most people, but can be awakened through the practice of yoga and meditation. When kundalini is awakened, it rises up through the spine and activates the chakras, or energy centers of the body.

The chakras are located at specific points along the spine, each associated with various aspects of consciousness. There are seven major chakras, each located at a specific area of the body:

  • The root chakra, located at the base of the spine, is associated with feelings of security and grounding.
  • The sacral chakra, located in the lower abdomen, is associated with creativity and sexuality.
  • The solar plexus chakra, located in the upper abdomen, is associated with personal power and self-esteem.
  • The heart chakra, located in the center of the chest, is associated with love and compassion.
  • The throat chakra, located in the throat, is associated with communication and self-expression.
  • The third eye chakra, located between the eyebrows, is associated with intuition and perception.
  • The crown chakra, located at the top of the head, is associated with spiritual connection and enlightenment.
The awakening of kundalini is believed to lead to a state of spiritual enlightenment, in which the individual experiences a sense of unity with the universe and a deep understanding of the true nature of reality. The awakening of kundalini is often described as a deeply transformative experience.

The concepts of kundalini and the chakras have a long history, and they're mentioned in many ancient texts, including the Upanishads and the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali. In these texts, the chakras are described as energy centers within the body that are associated with different aspects of human experience. The awakening of kundalini is a process of purifying and balancing the chakras, leading to a state of spiritual enlightenment.

The practice of yoga is an effective way to awaken kundalini and activate the chakras. Yoga isn't just a physical practice. The original yoga includes physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), ethical behavior (karma), and meditation. These practices work together to awaken and activate kundalini energy, leading to a state of samadhi, which is a profoundly deep understanding of reality.

So, samadhi is the ultimate goal of yoga, as it was originally taught by the Maharishis in India. It ultimately leads to liberation from suffering. However, Patañjali notes that reaching this state requires sustained practice and intense discipline. It's not something that can be attained quickly. The Yoga Sūtras offer guidance on how to prepare for and cultivate the state of samadhi through the devoted practice of yoga and meditation.
