Sak Yant tattoos, also referred to as Yantra or Thai Temple tattoos, involve intricate designs of geometric patterns, symbols, animals, deities and sacred texts, which hold deep cultural and spiritual value. They're applied manually with a cluster of needles, often via bamboo sticks or metal rods, by Buddhist monks or traditional tattoo masters.
Depending on the design and intention of the wearer, a Sak Yant tattoo can represent spiritual protection, blessings and good fortune, or a personal and spiritual journey. For example, the Hah Taew (Five Lines) signifies protection, luck and wishes, whilst the Gao Yord (Nine Peaks) symbolizes the nine sacred peaks of Mount Meru and the blessings and spiritual support they bring.
